Robot Controlled By Android Phone

Posted July 18, 2013 by Chris

“We decided a few weeks ago to use the Android as a remote controller instead of building a remote control from scratch. We had started developing our android controller with Google Labs App Inventor but one of the guys over at LMR did the same thing and put it on Android Market for $2. So we decided to use Chris the Carpenter’s RocketBot Controller.”

WIZnet Serial to Ethernet Gateway (PIC)

Posted July 17, 2013 by Chris

“This is an article from an electronics amateur, experienced in embedded design and programming. He has utilized the BPS-5-3 breadboard power stick, LC04A Logic Level Shifter and WIZnet Serial to Ethernet Gateway, to show a basic interface between WIZnet gateway, Graphic LCD, PIC microcontroller and the setup.”

AVR 32×8 LED Matrix Nerd Clock

Posted July 16, 2013 by Chris

“My wife recently asked me if I can make a digital clock from all the microcontrollers and electronic parts I’ve been playing with. She wanted to teach our son how to read the clock, and so she goes, ‘if you can make something useful out of your hobby, I’ll be pretty impressed’. :-O them challenging words..”

Mini Robotic Arm: Wood, Serovs and Plastic

Posted July 15, 2013 by Chris

“Time to build: 10 hours, Weight: 65 grams,
Actuators / output devices: 4 micro servos,
Control method: controlled by a PIC16F690 assembler firmware,
CPU: PIC16f690 micro controller
Power source: 4.8V to 6V from 4 battery cells
Sensors / input devices: teach in system with 4 potentiometers”

Craft Demo Hardware

Posted July 14, 2013 by Chris

“Craft is a demo running on its own minimalistic demo platform. The demo platform is based on an ATmega88 microcontroller. Having successfully built a soundchip out of a microcontroller together with my friends in kryo, I wanted to tackle the greater challenge of generating a realtime video signal along with the sound.”

The RobOrchestra Project

Posted July 13, 2013 by Chris

“The RobOrchestra Project seeks to create instruments that can not only play themselves, but also work together to create their own music. The ultimate goal is to create a full band, with at least one instrument to cover the roles of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, and Rhythm.”

OpenSCB: The Open Source Servo Controller

Posted July 12, 2013 by Chris

“OpenSCB is still a project under heavy development. Its goal is to create a fully open source servo controller. That means that we have designed a board with all the hardware to interface with classic RC servos, AX-12/AX-18 servos, openservo and more… It’s using a powerfull 32-bits microcontroller and it has a USB port for programming and control with a PC.”

GSM Alarm Control Panel

Posted July 11, 2013 by Chris

“Last year, before the holidays, my friend and I had an idea to make a device, which will notify police via GSM if someone breaks into the house….This description has the resulting device which is tested and works well, and it is also relatively inexpensive, as compared with similar products on the market.”

FPGA Platform Game

Posted July 10, 2013 by Chris

“I originally wrote this for an Altera development board which was actually a TQFP breakout board with the chip soldered onto it. This was fragile and poorly soldered so it fell apart after a while. I have now changed all the ROMs to be generic VHDL instead of LPM macros so it works with the Xilinx tools.”

ATmega644 JTAG Debugger

Posted July 8, 2013 by Chris

“The purpose of this project was to design and implement a debugger for the ATmega644 that communicated through its JTAG interface and was capable of controlling program execution by setting breakpoints and accessing registers and memory.”
