This week we are learning how to detect sound in our new PyroEDU course: An Introduction To Sensors. In this lesson we’ll look at everything there is to know about Sound Sensors and perform a fun experiment to give you a hands-on feel for how they work. Here’s a quick intro of what this PyroEDU lesson is all about:

We all hear and use sound in our daily lives, so we must also learn how to detect sound electronically. In this lesson we will use an electret microphone to convert sound from an acoustic wave, into an electrical signal.

The first question that comes to mind is how can the gun fire and not hit the propeller blades as they are spinning? Some planes had special steel plates mounted to the propeller to keep the bullets from shredding the propeller."

Detecting changes in color and reflectivity can be achieved using an infrared emitter and phototransistor. In this lesson we’ll do just that by making a rotary encoder for tracking a motor’s movement.
