Drop-dead Simple Motor Control

Posted December 26, 2010 by Chris

If you don’t need precise control over a motor you want running, this project will interest you. A motor is basically allowed to either turn on or off by using a potentiometer combined with a power transistor. Nothing ground breaking here, just back to the basics.

Mind Controlled Robot

Posted December 20, 2010 by Chris

Using a hacked 14 electrode ‘mind reading’ device, this project controls an RC car using only your brain waves. The project write-up has more pics, action videos and details out how to build your own.

Spinning 3d LED Globe

Posted December 19, 2010 by Chris

This LED globe can be programmed to display a happy new year sign, a map of the earth or anything you want pretty much. The project write-up is all in russian but the pictures, videos and source code give you the real idea of what is going on.

Lego 3d Printer

Posted December 15, 2010 by Chris

Random lego-bots seem to be all over the net these days, but this one I couldn’t get enough of. It’s basically a 3d printer made out of legos. The website has the build instructions (from legos), the software it uses and some cool vids of it in action.

The Sharpie Dotifier

Posted December 14, 2010 by Chris

This project uses a robotic arm made of servos, builds a platform stage and stepper motor to move it and draws whatever you input to it. A laptop reads from a picture file and sends commands to the arm telling it what to draw and where.

RGB Led Control

Posted December 12, 2010 by Chris

Newer LEDs can now do all 3 base colors: red green and blue. This means with some creativity (PWM) we can actually make the led any color we want. This project write-up goes through how to do that with a microcontroller.

Fortune Teller Box

Posted December 11, 2010 by Chris

This box seems to be more of an electronic magic 8 ball than a fortune telling device, but no matter, it’s cool! Combine a micro controller, an LCD and some extra circuitry and presto, you have a fortune telling box! The project write-up has all the details, code and schematics to duplicate the project.

The Seeker Robot

Posted December 8, 2010 by Chris

This ‘Seeker’ robot was originally designed to compete in DARPA’s Robo Magellan contest. It has all the standard features, along with some complex planning as well as 802.11 diagnostics information transmission. The project write-up has tons of pictures, the schematics and software.

A Robot That Balances on a Ball

Posted December 7, 2010 by Chris

This project shows how far control systems have come. Using omnidirectional wheels on top of a bowling ball the ultimate control system is created. It can balance with precision even with a 10kg brick placed on top of it. Check out the video demonstration of the robot in action.

DIY Telepresence Robot

Posted December 5, 2010 by Chris

Tele-presence robots are a new idea in DIY circles mostly because they’re better put to use in offices. This project shows you how to turn a netbook into a tele-presence robot. People will see your face and body through a camera and you can act naturally as if you were actually there. Take a look at the build process, its pretty cool.
