Oscilloscope Watch

Posted June 10, 2014 by Chris

"The Oscilloscope Watch has the features of a modern watch (time, calendar, alarm, etc…) along with those of an oscilloscope, waveform generator, logic analyzer, protocol sniffer, and frequency counter. It was developed by Gabriel Anzziani, the founder and CEO of Gabotronics."

Design A Track Running Announcement

Posted June 1, 2014 by Chris

"In this project, we look at how we can implement a Digital 2.4km Run Announcement System. The system is capable of displaying the time on the LED display once the start button is pressed. At the same time, the infrared interceptor is started, and is continuously checking if its infrared ray is intercepted, and if so, trigger the system to announce the time of interception to the runners, and make a log of the time of interception to the system."

A XBee/Arduino based Wireless Sensor Network

Posted May 27, 2014 by Chris

"I developed this WSN for a coursework on my MSc and I’m hoping others will find this useful or at least interesting 🙂 I’ve just installed the first parts of this WSN back home to collect sensor data from various outbuildings and it will be part of my new Arduino controlled greenhouse project."

Tiny Tim Robot #2

Posted May 25, 2014 by Chris

"…At this moment the robot can measure its speed and regulate its motors to keep a desired speed. This means that when the robot goes uphill it will recognise that its speed has dropped and will increase motor power and vice versa when it goes downhill. The regulation is currently nothing more than: if speed is faster than desired then decrease motor power with a constant amount…."

DIY Ultrasonic Rangefinder PCB w/ AVR

Posted May 22, 2014 by Chris

"One day a friend (who is also a Mechatronics engineer) and I decided to build an ultrasonic rangefinder. Sure, you can already buy modules such as the LV-EZ1 from Sparkfun, but where would the fun be in that? Moreover, things get expensive when you start wanting several of these sensors."

Making a digital capacitance meter using microcontroller

Posted May 17, 2014 by Chris

"Capacitors are one of the most common passive electrical components that are extensively used in all kinds of electronic circuits. In this project, we will discuss a technique of building a digital capacitance meter using a PIC microcontroller. This project can measure capacitance values from 1 nF to 99 uF, with a resolution of 1 nF."

Getting Started with a Breathalyzer Sensor

Posted May 5, 2014 by Chris

"We’re exploring a whimsical project to collect breathalyzer data from various locations for use in visualizing local trends in intoxication. This weekend I completed the first step by prototyping simple hardware that reacts to various amounts of booze on the breath."

Loki Robot

Posted May 4, 2014 by Chris

"Loki builds upon the software of Seeker and Mr. Roboto, including remote control and diagnostics over WiFi, but adds more capable vision processing, speech recognition, indoor pathfinding (Using A*), basic Artificial Intelligence, and general refinement of the architecture."

EEG Data Visualising Pendant

Posted April 30, 2014 by Chris

"I developed my EEG visualising pendant for use in social situations. The pendant uses EEG (Electroencephalography) signals, which are gleaned from a NeuroSky MindWave Mobile headset."

FailureBot 5 – A Line Following Robot

Posted April 23, 2014 by Chris

"The objectives of the FailureBot project originated simply as ‘build a line-following robot’. However, it somehow evolved into a 3-year robotics experiment. My first attempt to build a robot was such a complete failure that I jokingly called it ‘FailureBot’."
