This mechwarrior was built for children’s amusement. However, I think one look at it and any geek adult would want to try it out as well. No real details, but by the sound of it, it is gas powered. Check out the action videos on the website.

Here we have the ganzbot, an arduino robot that reads (outloud) your latest twitter status update and he even moves! Why anyone would need this…who cares, check the website for action shots and the project write-up.

Using a hacked 14 electrode ‘mind reading’ device, this project controls an RC car using only your brain waves. The project write-up has more pics, action videos and details out how to build your own.

Random lego-bots seem to be all over the net these days, but this one I couldn’t get enough of. It’s basically a 3d printer made out of legos. The website has the build instructions (from legos), the software it uses and some cool vids of it in action.

This project uses a robotic arm made of servos, builds a platform stage and stepper motor to move it and draws whatever you input to it. A laptop reads from a picture file and sends commands to the arm telling it what to draw and where.

Oberon is built from the leftovers of a wheel chair so it has some powerful motors and sensors. It uses this power to be able to explore long range, far away from the remote controller. This can be quite cool for the lone DIYer without a big budget. The project write-up is 33 pages of detailed info.

The robot ‘Loki’ is a type of protocol droid prototype. It has a laptop and pic at its core, along with 2 webcams for guidance through stereo vision and many other sensors. Take a look at the project write-up which has all the information about the robot.

This ‘Seeker’ robot was originally designed to compete in DARPA’s Robo Magellan contest. It has all the standard features, along with some complex planning as well as 802.11 diagnostics information transmission. The project write-up has tons of pictures, the schematics and software.

This project shows how far control systems have come. Using omnidirectional wheels on top of a bowling ball the ultimate control system is created. It can balance with precision even with a 10kg brick placed on top of it. Check out the video demonstration of the robot in action.

Here’s a more professional RPV robot from cannibal robotics. Although the source code is lacking, there’s a lot of details about the robot and how it works. The multiple pictures of the robot tell the story of how it works and what is going on where.
