Wireless Arduino Esplora Controls Robotic Head

Posted May 7, 2014 by Chris

"The Esplora sketch was modified to poll the joystick (4 directions) and the right button cluster. When they are activated, an appropriate ASCII character is sent via serial to the XBee which sends it to the Uno which controls the head via a Motorshield."

Getting Started with a Breathalyzer Sensor

Posted May 5, 2014 by Chris

"We’re exploring a whimsical project to collect breathalyzer data from various locations for use in visualizing local trends in intoxication. This weekend I completed the first step by prototyping simple hardware that reacts to various amounts of booze on the breath."

Arduino to Android IO on the cheap

Posted May 2, 2014 by Chris

"This article describes how to implement a very low bandwidth one way communication channel between an Arduino and an Android device using nothing more than about a meter of magnet wire, a resistor and diode. Links to a software sketch for the Arduino and the Android source code is included."

Luxcity UV Tonic Control System

Posted April 29, 2014 by Chris

"The Challenge: To design and build a sequencing control system for 64 solenoids that control a mixture of UV tonic and air into a manifold of pipes to be pumped around a structure. This was for a team participating in the Luxcity Project."

3D Pad – Control Without Touching

Posted April 22, 2014 by Chris

"Arduino shield for controlling something without touching the controller. Great for Touchless Gesture User Interface experiments, artistic expression and game controllers. Does not use special parts, just a bunch of CMOS chips connected to an ATmega328 in the form of an Arduino Uno board."

MTM Snap: A Snap-Together CNC milling machine

Posted March 16, 2014 by Chris

"Jonathan Ward from the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms has designed a snap-together, desktop-sized CNC milling machine. The MTM Snap is made from 1/2-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) – itself milled on a ShopBot – and can be assembled for about $700. This three-axis CNC machine can mill circuit boards, wax molds, and harder materials in a 5x3x1.75″ working area. "

Stripboard PID Arduino Shield

Posted March 12, 2014 by Chris

"A PID controller is like a kind of fancy thermostat, but can be used to control pretty much any kind of process, not just heating and cooling. This project was inspired by the osPID and its design is greatly indebted to that pioneering device."

The Magic Crystal Mood Ball

Posted March 11, 2014 by Chris

"The mood that the ‘Magic Crystal Mood Ball’ gives to the user is based on measuring his temperature and changing the color of the RGB LED to the its respective color. As in a mood ring, I set different colors for different temperatures. The temperatures coincides with mood state that the person is in."

TARDIS Pinewood Derby Car

Posted March 9, 2014 by Chris

"This January my daughter decided that she wanted to join in her brother’s cub pack’s Pinewood derby with a replica of Doctor Who’s TARDIS on wheels. Her design was pretty straightforward – balsa wood trim, poster paint, paper cutouts for the windows and sign, and her construction was quickly nearing completion…."

Building an Arduino Robot

Posted March 4, 2014 by Chris

"I have decided to do a small hardware project to get my feet wet, a project that I will fully document and discuss here with the hope to encourage and motivate others to do the same: Building an Arduino Robot."
