The “K’nex-ITX”

Posted March 22, 2008 by Chris

You might remember K’nex from your childhood days, it’s pretty much like a plastic erector set. This setup is a small case for a little embedded linux box. Honestly I’d imagine it would melt after a few hours of running, but a novel idea in the least.

Binary Marble Adding Machine

Posted March 21, 2008 by Chris

The invention of the adding machine saved the human race countless hours of actually having to do the math ourselves. This marble adding machine is a true pleasantry (at least on the eyes) as it is very well done. Yet it somehow it looks like it could be from a game show.

L298 DC Motor Control

Posted March 20, 2008 by Chris

Previously we explored DC motor control using the LMD18245. Now, looking forward we’ll use a method for even better motor control using the infamous L298. Specifically the L298HN (makes things even easier), Check It Out!

Gaussian Pistol

Posted March 19, 2008 by Chris

If you’re looking for a handheld gaussian pistol then you’ve found it. This sucker probably weighs a ton but unlike most gaussian shooters it’s mobile. This website has all sorts of angles, photos & videos of the pistol.

The Stunning Camera

Posted March 18, 2008 by Chris

Moving to a true pyro design, we have the Stunning Camera. With some slight modifications to a single-use camera a stun-camera is born. Whenever someone tries to take a picture it gives them a mild shock (The video demonstration is pretty good).

Posted March 17, 2008 by Chris

This project is extremely useful for you flight simulator gurus out there. Commercially available joysticks are never good enough for games that demand pinpoint accuracy. Find out how to mod your joystick or even create your very own.

Oscilloscope Tetris

Posted March 16, 2008 by Chris

The Oscilloscope is a fundamental tool for anyone into electronics and these old antique ones are very dear to our hearts. This project is one of the better uses I’ve seen of these old o-scopes. Using an ATmega32 to control the crt inside the o-scope, “Scopetris” was born. The write up is very entertaining so give it a look!

Low Cost Bat Detector

Posted March 15, 2008 by Chris

Even zoologists seem to have their electronics mod’ing projects on the internet. This is a modified radio that has been altered for listening to the ultrasonic chirps that bats use to navigate. The modification is very straight forward and the write-up has all necessary parts & step by step instructions.

Mini MIDI Drums

Posted March 14, 2008 by Chris

The midi drum project is somewhat of an antique being that it began in ’91. It uses 8051’s to create realistic drum beats depending on which drums you hit. Much more complicated than it sounds. The many circuit diagrams and schematics are included along with the source code.

Linux Infrared Remote Control

Posted March 13, 2008 by Chris

IR remote controls have been very popular for quite a long time and they’re easy to build. This very detailed project write-up shows you not only have to build one but also explains how to have Linux inter operate with the remote control.
