GPS Tracking of Deer Fawns

Posted June 17, 2014 by Chris

"…In order to solve a debate, the facility wants to track the released fawns to monitor their progress. If the fawns are alive three weeks after release then it is obvious that the herd is feeding them. The facility has a limited budget so I am building the tracking devices for them. The tracking collars will be GPS based so that the facility staff will not require advanced radio signal tracking skills."

Raspberry FM : Project finale

Posted April 14, 2014 by Chris

"This weekend I finally knocked out the final hardware config for me to consider the ‘Raspberry FM’ project complete. What is this project exactly? It’s an experiment I gave myself to combine a Raspberry Pi, Makey Makey, MicroRAX, and MPlayer to create an auto-on internet radio player. I called it ‘Raspberry FM’ after a combination of the Raspberry Pi, and Soma FM, my favorite internet radio station."

Audio GPS Navigation

Posted March 29, 2014 by Chris

"This project demonstrates the ability to navigate a user based on synthesized directional audio which allows the user to move to a known location without the use of a visual aid. The module uses a GPS, a digital compass, and an ATmega32 to generate sound based on the direction that the user must turn in order to face the correct direction."

Garage Door Hack

Posted March 21, 2014 by Chris

"One field of communication and DSP that has always intrigued me is signal intelligence, the attempt to receive and decode an unknown signal. It’s an interesting puzzle that requires a wide variety of hardware, software, and analytical skills…I decided I would try to receive and decode the signal my garage door remote transmits to the base unit to open and close the door."
