The project consists of a custom 32-bit soft core processor running at just under 60MHz which decodes the MP3 algorithm in software with no hardware acceleration apart from a single cycle Xilinx multiplier unit.”

“Parallel port is basic need for hardware engineers involved in Microcontroller, FPGA or DATA Acquisition Projects. But now the PC Assembler companies (Lenevo, Dell) are not giving an parallel port in the system. Parallel port on a laptop is very rare…laptops have only USB, HDMI, VGA and RJ45. But they forgot our need the serial port and the Parallel Port.”

“This honours project was aimed at the design and build of a robotic violin player. ‘Robofiddler’ plays notes by placing one of a total of 6 mechanical fingers on the fingerboard and then striking the bow across one of the 4 strings. Tunes can be entered on a host computer and downloaded to the microcontroller based robot.”

“I often need a simple function generator. Just to generate a certain frequency. After all the years I’ve worked with electronics, I still haven’t got me one. Even though I need it now and then, I just couldn’t seem to justify the cost of one. So, standard solution – build one yourself.”

“I built this for an independent-study project in Computer Engineering (my major). The rationale for it is that something similar to this could conceivably be used by SWAT teams or the military to enter buildings where bad people are and shoot/Taser them.”
