               Stepper Motors are an alternative to DC motors. They offer something that DC motors don't, reliability. Their movement can be closely tracked by keeping count of how many times you step the motor. Each step is correlated to an angle of movement. The stepping angle depends on the motor but some are very precise, this is probably why stepper motors were used in early computer disc drives.
               One disadvantage to stepper motors is that they tend to suck alot of current from batteries. Stepper motors tend to get really warm because of this, but that is just how they are.
