How To Get A Quartus II License
If you open Quartus II now, you'll get this window that popus up asking for a license:
There are two types of licenses. Altera offers the free 'web' license which is free for about 4-5 months and they offer the subscription license which you purchase. If you are doing commercial work altera requires you to purchase a license subscription. For now I'll assume you are a student & want a free educational 'web' license. You'll need to go to altera's website at altera.com Navigate to the license portion of their website, it looks like this:
Just fill out that form with your name, address & e-mail and altera will e-mail you a license that you can use. It should be instant. So go check your e-mail. Download the attached license from your e-mail into the Quartus II directory & now in Quartus II you can tell it where the license file is like I did here:
Click ok and it will show you the details of that license. The most important thing to notice is when it expires. Its circled in this picture:
Again click OK and you'll be all set. It takes you back to the home interface of Quartus II. All finished! You're ready to rock and roll.
