The Altera DE2 Board: The ByteBlaster

The ByteBlaster
           The ByteBlaster programmer is nostalgic to many of us who have been using FPGA devices for a while. The normal 'parallel' port byteblaster can be handmade very easily, however we'll look into that in another tutorial. Here's a picture of that kind of programmer:


           Luckily, Altera included in the DE2 Kit a nice USB ByteBlaster cable. So let's go ahead and get the drivers for it all setup. This is a pretty easy process, just follow these directions:

           So now let's proceed, don't worry it's easy! Plug in the USB ByteBlaster to your computer and to the DE2 board. Make sure that the power to the board is also plugged in. That should all look something like this:


           After getting it all plugged in you'll see a popup appear on the screen. Go to the next page and the tutorial will guide you through setting up the usb byteblaster.
