The first video shows the lcd turn on, get setup & print out some sample text. Once you get to this point you know that the command and print functions work and you can use all the functionality that the interface offers (making custom characters!). One thing to note is that I added a trimpot instead of using the original 1.2k resistor for the Vo contrast.
The second video shown below just elaborates by using some of the more advanced functions availabe to us from the HD74480 controller; namely the marquee (shift left/right). This is a simple standard command and once received the interface does it all on its own.
