The 16x2 LCD: Display Custom Characters

An Overview Of The The 16x2 LCD: Display Custom Characters
The 16x2 LCD module is great when you need to slap a text output into a project and get going quick or finish up fast. Even better, you can make your own custom character images which is what this tutorial was all about. If you need a certain image on the display that the character set doesn't already have, not a problem, make it yourself, throw it into the CGRAM and then display it!

What To Do Now
This tutorial really covers the tail end of the advanced functionality that the HD44780 LCD module has to offer but you can always look into the 5x10 fonts as there are some differences in how you make custom characters for the larger sized font. Additionally if you're really curious, you can look into how to do on-the-fly animation with these character roms. Since you know how to build your own character and how to update the CGRAM you could have quite a few images running as animations at the same time.

Conclusion
As you saw in the data section, the custom character images came out successful and were displayed on the LCD. The software is available for anyone to download to duplicate the project. So I'd have to say that everything went smoothly and this tutorial has been a success in going through the who, what, where and when's of the 16x2 LCD Display. So, get moving and start using it in your own projects and be the coolest kid in school with your custom character images on the LCD!
