Parts List Details
The parts list for this project is not too terribly complicated: a few active components and a lot of passive components like resistors. The more important parts are described in further detail below.

LM339 Quad Comparator
The quad comparators used in this project will be used in pairs to form window comparators. Each LM339 IC has 4 comparators, so we'll need 4 LM339's to get 8 pairs.

7408 Dual Input AND Gate
We'll need 8 dual input AND Gates to convert the output from each pair of comparators into a single digital 1 or 0. Each 7408 has 4 dual input AND Gates, so we'll need 2 of these ICs.

555 Timer
In this project we'll be using the 555 timer in its a-stable multivibrator configuration to generate the different tones of the theremin.

7805 +5v Regulator
All the parts in this project will run off +5v power and this regulator will make sure that no matter what battery is connected to the project, only +5v is output to the parts on the board.

Protoboard and Wire Wrap
The platform that we'll use to build on is called protoboard. It's a nice piece of plastic board with holes drilled with 0.1" spacing. We'll also use both Wire Wrap and Solder to make all of the electrical connections.
