Digital IR Theremin

An Overview Of The Digital IR Theremin
In this project, we set out to build a simple all hardware theremin that could play different pitch tones based off how far away an object is from the IR proximity sensor. The system worked! The all hardware nature of this project means things can be easily tweaked here and there by changing a resistor or capacitor value.

What To Do Now
The most obvious avenue to persue would be to clear up the sound by choosing better resistor values. You might also pursue using software to generate the theremin's buzzy noises with a microcontroller. Check out the Mini IR Theremin project to see how you can do this same project, but all in software!

Conclusion
We set out to build an IR theremin using only digital logic hardware and it does indeed work, squealing high pitched noises out of a tiny headphone speaker. The ICs all did their job and interpreted the sensor data exactly as planned.
