You may or may not be familiar with the parts above so a picture of each item has been included to help give you an idea of what they look like. I'll go through and explain each part briefly below.
PIC 18F4520
For this project the PIC 18F4520 microcontroller was used as the processor. It is in charge of understanding the IR commands, controlling the servos for pan and tilt and for controlling the firing mechanism on the airsoft gun.
HS-5485HB Servo and Continuous Rotation Servo
These two servos will be used to create the pan and tilt type of system for the turret. The continuous rotation servo will be used for rotating/panning the turret left and right. The beefy HS-5485HB servo will tilt the airsoft gun barrel up and down.
IR Receiver Module
This is a standard IR photodetector with some filtering and amplification circuitry inside specifically made for a 38 KHz IR signal. Since this is the frequency our communication operates at, this module is perfect for our design.
Servo L Bracket and Servo C Bracket
These are standard metal brackets specifically made for hobby servo motors. They are made of metal and won't ever break. The holes drilled into them make it so that they fit into servo horns perfectly and act as a type of erector set for hobby servos.
Fully Automatic Airsoft Gun
This specific type of airsoft gun should be used because it is extremely compact and has a nice long barrel that pokes out of the turret, creating the proper traditional look of a turret.
Tupperware Cake Platter
The Tupperware Cake Platter will act as the enclosure for the project. It's turret like shape, perfect size and volume and stable platform gives us a great base for a turret.
