Included Instructions
When building a project of this complexity it is always best to read the instructions a few times through to make sure you understand as much as possible about how the project works as well as how the project is built.
When I read through the included instructions I noticed the graphics were often too small (you can see some examples above) and so you couldn't easily make out what was always happening, which leads me to the downloable instructions.
Downloadable Instructions
A downloadable PDF version of the instructions is also available. I would highly recommend using it as it is very, very helpful to zoom in on the photos and schematics to study them with better quality: get the PDF.
However, even with these better quality instructions and photos, I didn't get a great feeling for the theory of 'how' the 8x8x8 LED Cube works. At the end of the instructions was a link to an instructables project which had a more detailed theoretical explanation.
So to clear any confusion about how the 8x8x8 LED Cube works theoretically, I'll give a short explanation on the next page.
