Building an LED cube has been a project that we have always wanted to do, but the opportunity just never presented itsself. However, with the recent launch of Club Jameco we were able to get our hands on one of their 8x8x8 LED kits which provides all the parts (95% of them) and instructions for building your own LED cube.
In this article, we'll be constructing the Club Jameco Kit: The 8x8x8 LED Cube.. We'll also be providing an informal critique of this kit, giving our readers the chance to peek inside the kit itself and, hopefully, steer clear of the many pitfalls that exist when building a project of this complexity.

Purpose & Overview Of This Project
The purpose of this project is to build an 8x8x8 LED Cube with the parts included in the Club Jameco: 8x8x8 LED Cube Kit. The end result should look similar to or better than the example LED Cube in their official kit instructions.
The sub-goals of this project are to build the 512 LED cube, to build an Arduino based controller board and to build a nice enclosure that hides the electronics. All-in-all I imagine this project should take a weekend to complete.
