motors... selection...

the weight of my robot is 12-14kg.....i am having a serious problem in selecting motors...

motors must must have good rpm
must have torque
must have feedback (for differential drive , positioning and controlling)
must have power to drive 12-14kg.....

Hi Electron,

When it comes to choosing motors you need to decide what you need the motors to do, how many rpm's are required.

Professionally built motors like the ones found at will document the rotor inertia and free running torque the motor has at different voltages/currents/rpm's.

This means you will need to calculate out the peak torque required for your system and then you'll be able to choose the proper motor from a manufacturer. This does mean you'll have to pull out your physics textbook to get a proper calculation.

Unless you plan to rely on a back-emf type of feedback, you will need to purchase a motor encoder for your motor. There are many different types of encoder to choose from, but they all output the same basic signals.
