CD4511 - BCD to 7-seg driver

Postby Bingo600 » Tue Jul 01, 2014 8:15 pm

@Chris

As i don't have a CD4511 , i have 2 choices.

1:
I could program an Arduino to perform the logic.

2:
I could find a bcd to 7-seg vhdl code on the net , and hope for some "help" in "gluing it in my EPM240 , when it's needed in the course.

I have toyed a bit with opt2 , attached.

I'll definately need some "help" to "glue it in , when we make the "real project".
Would that be possible ?

Ohh ... The schematic of the EPM240 board is also attached.

Hi Bingo,

the 4511 is actually not 100% necessary. You can actually just build the decoding scheme for it inside of the PLD either in VHDL or in the schematic entry with a device like 74_46.

Here's an example: http://www.pyroelectro.com/tutorials/vhdl_intro/index.html

The schematic entry HDL method is the easiest method to 'glue' logic into a circuit, however it is the least flexible and not-professional. That's why we'll focus on VHDL in the course and save a quick look at schematic entry HDL for lesson 10.
