What exactly do capacitors do? Ok, I have a 1.5 capacitor. Someone told me that capacitors, depending on the farad level, adds a certain amount of watts to your amp....Example: I have a 600 watt amp, I have a 1.5 capacitor (1.5 farads= 1500 watts), so now I have a total of 2100 watts....If you understand my question please help, cause I didn't just want to by the capacitor and not even have to use it.

Hi Charlize,

When dealing with amplifiers, capacitors play multiple different roles in the power output from the amplifier. Too many to list out here to really explain in-depth.

It sounds like you're trying to find a capacitor for your in-car audio system. For that I'll refer you to here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1qTQwM1hvCF/learn/learningcenter/car/capacitors/faq.html

They explain what size of cap to use given your stereo setup and all the details of what it does.

Good luck!
