Re: #6 Binary Timer [Post Homework Here]

Ohh   Once again i left RESET unassigned in the ucf file , and forgot to reset the "ticks counter" when RESET was pressed. New implementation here: library ieee; use ieee.std_logic_1164.all; use ieee.std_logic_unsigned.all; entity lesson6 is Generic ( osc_freq: natural := 50000...

Re: #6 Binary Timer [Post Homework Here]

It was easier to bring my Xilins S3E EDU board to Sweden. So i haven't done the real hardware on my EPM240 , just did the VHDL in Quartus. I did the real hardware on the S3E board in ISE , and quiclky discovered that 50Mhz into a 4-bit led counter ==> To fast to see blinking. So i dug out the 10Hz t...

Re: #6 Binary Timer [Post Homework Here]

Hi Chris Here is my homework "made in Sweden" :-) HOMEWORK QUESTION 1 What is the difference between the 74HC193 timer/counter module and the one we designed for a CPLD? 1: The 74HC193 has a /LOAD (Parallel load enable) , ours does not. 2: The 74HC193 has a CK_UP and a CK_DWN pin, ours onl...

Re: S3E lesson5

Lesson5-3 (5-2 was a working revision and omitted) The thought here in CLOCK_10HZ , was to count from 0 .. ((50Mhz/10)/2)-1. And then "Flip" hz_10. This one has the timing correct 200ms. less-5-3.png But gives a warning ... why ?? WARNING:Route:455 - CLK Net:hz_10 may have excessive skew ...

Re: S3E lesson5

Lesson5-1 The thought here in CLOCK_10HZ , was to make 0 .. (50Mhz/10)/2 a low , and (50Mhz/10)/2 to (50Mhz/10) a high But it blinks slower than the 5hz , my scope says approx 334 ms. less-5-1.png library ieee; use ieee.std_logic_1164.all; entity lesson5 is Generic ( osc_freq: natural := 50000000);...

S3E lesson5

Chris i have done lesson5 on my S3E starterboard , and was bitten a few times  First i got bitten by the "reset" that i did not connect in the ucf file , and apparently 2 times the design worked (pure luck i guess , the fitter must have chosen a pin that was low) , then i corrected ...

Re: #5 Procedural Logic [Post Homework Here]

Hi Chris Here is my homework HOMEWORK QUESTION 1 What is the difference between combinatorial logic and procedural logic? Combinatorial logic always runs. Procedural logic runs when a signal on the sensitivity list changes. HOMEWORK QUESTION 2 What is the purpose of using a ‘sensitivity list’ in a p...

Re: #4 Combinatorial Logic [Post Homework Here]

With logic personally I tend to separate the levels out vertically and attack it input to output. But you can surely use this method from either side to build up the combinatorial logic statement. So the order doesn't matter : as in y <= d NAND ((NOT c) or (a AND b)); and y <= ((NOT c) or (a AND b)...

Re: The advanced stuff

Logic simulator

Runs java , so i can use it on linux

http://www.cburch.com/logisim/index.html

Super intuitive .....

Use "poke tool " from Base to set wires to 0,1,x , or to probe a wire for 0/1

Re: #4 Combinatorial Logic [Post Homework Here]

Question 3 was a tough one.... I had to grumble for a while :? But just what i wanted to learn VHDL for. I hope i got it correct , the RTL Viewer seems to inducate that i have. Btw: I attacked the Logic "backwards , meaning the logic closest to the output was also written closest to the ...
