I would definitely recommend using some USB JTAG Interface such as http://www.jtagtest.com/viatap which already has ByteBlaster-compatible pinheader and can be used directly to program any PLD devices via SVF files using http://www.jtagtest.com/ I have “original version” of this cable (made by Altera) and I must say it’s pain in the *** to use it.
